IBM Taiwan GTS officially announced the launch of IBM's Smart Surveillance Solution. Named by market research and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan as 2008 North American Video Surveillance Software Company of the Year Award, IBM has, in recent years, come to fully understand the surveillance and security needs of global industries around the world. Incorporating the advantages of IBM's innovation in digital video analytics and real time alerting solutions, IBM's Smart Surveillance Solution integrates four unique design functions - Search, Integration, Flexibility, Scalability (SIFS) ¡V on open standards based platform to facilitate front to back end integration and the consolidation of new and legacy systems, which can be adopted in the fields of retailing, gambling, shipping and transportation, national security, and many others.
Traditional video surveillance technologies necessitate huge security and administration overhead and costs, not to mention their slow response time to emergencies and situational awareness, data search and analysis, and systems integration. Nowadays, enterprises demand comprehensive security solutions capable of converging web, communications, security, Point of Sales systems and other digital video surveillance service features designed to increase efficiencies, enable real-time decision making, conduct video event analysis, carry out physical security, plus open up the new applications.
Chief Architect of IBM Smart Surveillance Solution Dr. Chiao-Fe Shu said that in response to the varied needs of different industries across the globe, IBM GTS has, over the past years, strived hard to come up with advanced surveillance designs with innovative capabilities and business applications. IBM's Smart Surveillance Solution integrates IBM's unique video data analytic capabilities on open standards based platform to allow for the monitoring and analysis of physical security and enterprise IT infrastructure via multiple sensor components including cameras, digital video recorders, servers, storage systems, software and network devices.
Dr. Chiao-Fe Shu emphasizes that IBM's Smart Surveillance Solution is a cross-IBM solution that incorporates IBM's software, hardware, research, system integration, services and other core capabilities under one umbrella designed to offer users four innovative features based on industry open standards based platforms - SIFS.
Search: IBM's unique indexing and attribute-based search capabilities enable video events to classify targeted images into categories as people or designated objects for a more thorough analysis. It can for example, recognize license plates and facial features and can capture the identity, location and activity of particular objects in the monitored space.
Integration: IBM's Smart Surveillance Solution provides a more cost-effective and integrated way to build security solutions by integrating recognition modules or existing surveillance systems to help users easily migrate or upgrade.
Flexibility: IBM has already successfully helped global industries open up a vast array of new applications in the realm of:
¡P Transportation security: Including traffic surveillance, license plate recognition, traffic safety rules violation prevention, etc.
¡P Retail: Including the surveillance, search, tracking, detection and analysis of inventories, product displays, store activities, consumers' shopping behavior, number of incoming and outgoing people, connecting surveillance with Point of Sales systems, product returns done in bad faith, etc.
¡P National security: Including surveillance in airports, subways, harbors to prevent trespassers from illegally entering the premises, sneaking away, staying or any acts poised to harm the national security of a country, prevent the abandoning of unclear objects, and conduct quick recalls of previous recordings or post-event correlations.
¡P Gambling: Including the identification of hustlers at gambling tables and the monitoring of suspicious behaviors.
Scalability: Including the support of large surveillance systems up to thousands of video channels and the support of a high degree of scalability.
Jacky Chen, IBM Taiwan GTS Service Product Line Manager, adds, 'IBM's commitment and tech innovations in the surveillance solution industry are widely applauded. Its efforts were rewarded as Frost & Sullivan 2008 North American Video Surveillance Software Company of the Year Award. IBM continues to work closely with partners in different industries around the world to advance the use of open industry standards for RFID and other emerging tech trends, IP network infrastructures and related digital technologies. Surveillance is no longer just surveillance for it would surpass beyond security and protection to bring forth more business opportunities, revenues and innovations to enterprises.
In addition to increased operational efficiencies and broadened applications, it is also the wish of enterprises to own end-to-end solutions from the products and services they purchase. To this, Jacky Chen iterates that IBM's Smart Surveillance Solution is now recognized in the market as a true total end-to-end solution provider, an innovation that leverages IBM's services from consulting, design, planning and integration to IBM's hardware and software, along with specific technologies from partnering relations. |
