'I am interested in all beautiful things, when art combines with technologies, it will definitely grab people's attention and win their hearts,' says Lin. 'Beautiful' is a key factor for Lin to invested in nLighten Technologies and get involved in the development of display products couple of years ago. 'nLighten has great technologies and performance of the end product is glorious,' Lin indicates.
nLighten is a US registered company that moved from Silicon Valley to Shanghai. The company's mission is to create and design outstanding yet affordable high definition displays with DLP technology from Texas Instruments. nLighten offers innovative products in large size HD displays and HDTVs, as well as display modules for seamless video wall application open frame display for video walls and other custom designs jobs. nLighten also provides applications for video conferencing, e-board education systems, security systems, and much more.
'nLighten has great display technologies, however, the company is weak in commercialization. Though you are very good in R & D, it is hard for you to survive in the market if you can not commercialize your products and make them available in the market,' Lin stresses. 'I have spent around six months to straighten out the product lines and marketing channels of nLighten after Phihong has invested in it. We can now offer a full range of products including DLP (Digital Light Processing) display, LCD display, DLP/LCD interactive touch screen, DLP display that powered with LED, and video wall. Regarding display size, our products range from 50-inch, 60-inch, 72-inch, 82-inch to even 130-inch.'
In correspondence to the philosophy of nLighten 'Big, Bigger, Biggest Size; High, Higher, Highest Picture Quality; Low, Lower, Lowest Power Consumption', the company's rear projection display offer much higher resolution and even better picture quality when comparing with traditional rear projection display products. Super wide projection lens is designed in system which enables nLighten DLP products with very slim shape. While 5 segments color wheel and brillian color technologies produce real colorful bright pictures with 1920x1080p resolution and 16:9/4:3 aspect ratio. RPTV product sounds not popular recently, however, with nLighten's enhanced rear projection technology, the resolution and picture quality of nLighten's rear projection TV is now able to compete with LCD TV. The most important of all: with larger size and much more affordable price.
'We target at large size display market. As you know that the price of LCD panel is getting lower and lower, while the price of 42-inch LCD TV is rather cheap in comparison with years ago, hence it is no way for medium size rear projection TV to compete in this market segment. On the other hand, while targeting at the 50-inch and above market, LCD TV is very expensive, thus rear projection TV is highly competitive here.'
As for the lower power consumption issue, low total Cost of Ownership (CoO) & friendly green technology enable nLighten's DLP display consumes 30 - 50% less energy than which other display with the same screen size. The power consumption for the company's 60-inch & 72-inch displays are 225W and 260W. In addition, the newly released LED DLP HDTV also enables the system to cut down power consumption while offers brighter images at the same time.
Regarding applications, Lin indicates that classroom, training room for education, conference room for presentations, video conferencing, indoor digital signage, commercial information display, decoration and image display are all the appropriate applications. 'Believe it or not, interactive electronic whiteboard makes the learning process smarter and more efficient. It enhances the joy of teaching, and facilitates synchronous learning, in addition, it encompasses richer e-learning resources that enables kids to learn and grow in a hands-on environment.'
As mentioned before, Lin believes that large size and high resolution rear projection displays and interactive screen has huge market potential, and has spent great effort to the development of related technologies and products. 'We have spent huge investment in this segment, no one knows what will the market responses at this moment. However, we just decided to go ahead when we believe it is the right option, time will tell,' Lin stresses.
