Berlin, Sept. 1, 2008 - As summer was turning to autumn TAITRA was deep in the heart of Germany last August 30 to help launch an new fleet of fresh products. Such launchings wouldn't be news if they were held in Taiwan since new products on the island-republic occur almost on a daily basis.
But this was sleepy summer in Berlin, which was the second day of IFA at MESSE BERLIN 2008, happened to be the day of the Taiwanese press conference and launchings which came just as the opening show pizzazz was ebbing. At that moment the Taiwan conference opened under the theme, "Taiwan: Bringing Innovations to the World".
And a world eager for new ideas was there to receive them. A press scrum of more than 100 people enthusiastically packed the conference, half of them international journalists from trade computer magazines like C'T Magazine, and scores from other agencies such as USA-based web radio station Into Tomorrow, AVING from Germany, and many more reporters from Japan, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.
During the launching Lin Hwei-shan, CEO at Tatung Co. pointed out the vital position held by Taiwan in the ICT industry and the advantages offered by her products. These solutions are becoming self evident as Taiwan brands gain an increasingly larger portion of the global market. With more than a dozen Taiwan products ranking first in global share, Taiwan has also become the most important ICT procurement platform in the world.
And the launchers were ...
This event was used by ASUSTek Computer to introduce its latest member of its Eee Family, its super lightweight and compact Eee PC. Meanwhile they announced that they would wrap up the year by unveiling its latest bamboo-themed notebook.

Each year firms with products awarded the status of Taiwan Excellence gain global prominence through a worldwide campaign that takes them and their products to the great IT shows including CeBIT, COMPUTEX TAIPEI, Taitronics Bangkok and IFA. At IFA the trade world met them under the spotlighted at the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion and at the International Press Conference.
The Taiwan Image Hall in 2008 IFA also let leading Taiwan industries profile those products that won Taiwan's Excellence Award, the iF Design Award, and Red Dot Design Award. Such firms included a display of leading products from ASUSTek, Gigabyte Technology, and HTC Corp. The display cases included the super thin 13" LCD by Chi Mei (it's only 219g, with super thin 0.265cm, brightness 350 nits, and energy saving of 0.7W LCD). It's thin, bright, and energy saving features promise to lead the way into the future.
Following the International Press Conference and one-on-one interviews, TAITRA wined and dined more than 100 important political and business leaders at its TAIWAN NIGHT. The list included Germen congressman, major buyers, media, and Taiwanese exhibitors.
A real flag raiser!
This was the first time Taiwanese exhibitors used a "Taiwan Image Hall" at IFA. The 106-exhibitor area held a prominent position at the show and brought the Berlin organizers to officially list the pavilion under the name "TAIWAN" as the country pavilion on their official floor map and website. This success, the result of incredible effort by TAITRA and the German Trade Office, not only delivered the Taiwan message but also boosted Taiwan's status as a distinct and vital entity.
TAITRA also represented all Taiwan firms unable to joint IFA 2008 via its Taiwan Trade website and member services. International buyers can use it to easily search and source directly from Taiwan concerns.
