Diverse Applications Drive Flourishing Development of IPC Industry in Taiwan

COMPUTEX TAIPEI, which is held in June every year, has attracted hundreds of thousands of buyers and visitors all over the world.  This year, the event has achieved new heights in both exhibition size and number of buyers, and has successfully brought billions US dollars of purchase orders for Taiwan's ICT industry.  In particular, heavy figures from international companies, such as Sean Malone, executive vice-president, General Manager, Sales and Marketing Group of Intel, Steven Guggenheimer, OEM vice-president of Microsoft, and Dirk Meyer, president and chief operating officer of AMD, also took apart in the show.  Their participation declared the profound influences of COMPUTEX TAIPEI on the global ICT industries.  Among all the exhibited products, IPC (Industrial Personal Computer) has always been an important part of this show, and has drawn attentions from international buyers.

Taiwan's Prowess in IPC Industry

Driven by diverse PC applications, the PC-based IPC market has also grown rapidly in recent years and has expanded to many areas, such as communication, industrial automation, medical, military, and aerospace.  As the market keeps rising, Taiwan's IPC makers have also built up strong competences in both technology and marketing capabilities.  The total revenues of all publicly listed IPC makers in Taiwan have surpassed NTD 48 billion in 2007.

IPC is not a standard product. System integration compatibility, after-sale services, long-term delivery ability, quality control, production schedule, and inventory management are all the key issues to take into consideration.  Taiwan is a powerhouse of PC manufacturing in the world.  With the excellent cost competitiveness and complete industrial chain supports, Taiwan's IPC makers are the best candidates for tier-one international companies to work with.  Though companies like GE and IBM dominate the large system integration market, Taiwan still has successfully moved into single-board computer market and now become the biggest exporter in the world.  The constantly increasing contract manufacturing orders from international companies have brought brilliant growth dynamics for Taiwan's IPC industry.  Furthermore, high margin of this business has also attracted Taiwan's motherboard and NB makers to enter IPC market by forming partnerships or even deploying in branding market.

Business continuity and disaster recovery was a close second in importance among survey respondents.
